How FanUp kept fans in the game from home with text-to-win

01The challenge

The challenge: fan engagement without fans in the stands

No fans in the stands.

FanUp usually engages fans in the venue: a keyword on the big screen, an offer in return. With in-person events limited, it needed to bring that excitement to fans at home.

Professional Bull Riders held one of the first nationally televised live sporting events without fans, and FanUp's clients PBR and Can-Am wanted those viewers involved.

02What changed

The fix: a text-to-win contest run through the API

Text-to-win, run from FanUp's own software.

Over five weekends of televised and streamed bull riding, commentators promoted the contest between riders and the keyword appeared on screen. A custom workflow connected entries to FanUp's software and kept underage fans out.

FanUp set the number of winners, the notifications, and the timing itself. Each night an instant winner won prizes, and every entrant had a chance at a Can-Am ATV worth more than $10,000.
